Daylight Savings Time

I have always had trouble with mnemonics. They are so frequently ambiguous. Take for example, the mnemonic for daylight savings time "spring ahead, fall back." When I ask people if "fall back" is a command to me or the clock, most of the time the immediate answer is that the command is addressed to me. But if I "fall back" then relative to me the clock should "spring ahead" so I set my clocks forward an hour and then am two hours early for everything. I am beginning to suspect a vast conspiracy against me.
