First Knuckle of Thumb and Dorsal Freckle

Yesterday I had my routine injections of phenol in my nerves leading to my right finger flexers.  The purpose of this is my brain is constantly sending strong signals to those flexers instructing them to make a tight first out of my right hand, and thus driving my fingers painfully into my hand.  The injections help dampen the signals.
The needle used to inject the phenol also sends a periodic current so the doctor can find the right nerves by watching how my fingers twitch.  But some of my nerves are not anywhere near where they are supposed to be.  In particular we have not fund my thumb flexer until yesterday.  To be sure we did not loose it we came up with a coordinate system relative to the first knuckle of my thumb and my “dorsal freckle.”
The region in which the coordinate system was involved was essentially flat in curvature so we were able to treat in as a region of R^2.
